68th Annual Golden Globes Predictions 2011

On Sunday, January 16th, 2011,  is the 68th Annual Golden Globes Awards~! I don't actually watch them...I just like making predictions and seeing who the winners are at the end. But my favorite part? Looking at all the beautiful/ugly clothes that the stars will wear! Excited to see a bunch of blogs talk about it tomorrow but for now let's make some predictions shall we?

[These predictions are made by my own movie knowledge and are completely NOT accurate to ANY degree, it's just who I WANT TO WIN and a little blurb on why. Haha...if you want predictions that might ACTUALLY COME TRUE, please go away now because these are my own opinions! You might be pissed if you're actually a movie buff!]

BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
  • BLACK SWAN
  • THE FIGHTER
  • INCEPTION
  • THE KING’S SPEECH
  • THE SOCIAL NETWORK
This is a TOTAL toss-up. I heard good things about all of these movies and have been meaning to watch them all but I have to admit that I've only seen 3 out of the 5...But I heard the big winner of the night will be The Social Network and it's good and all, but I really like Black Swan, so cross your fingers. Everyone is a winner in this category! :) FYI: Black Swan Review & The Social Network Review

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
  • HALLE BERRY in FRANKIE AND ALICE
  • NICOLE KIDMAN in RABBIT HOLE
  • JENNIFER LAWRENCE in WINTER’S BONE
  • NATALIE PORTMAN in BLACK SWAN
  • MICHELLE WILLIAMS in BLUE VALENTINE
Once again, I didn't watch like 4 of these movies. Seriously, am I even qualified to make these predictions?!! Oh well, it's just for fun...Black Swan = life changing movie and I thought Natalie Portman was amazing despite her annoying character flaws in real life...but I have to admit she's a damn good actress!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
  • JESSE EISENBERG in THE SOCIAL NETWORK
  • COLIN FIRTH in THE KING’S SPEECH
  • JAMES FRANCO in 127 HOURS
  • RYAN GOSLING in BLUE VALENTINE
  • MARK WAHLBERG in THE FIGHTER
Damn it. All these movies are good! But Jesse Eisenberg really killed it as Mark Zuckerberg. Yeah the movie wasn't accurate but then again are movies EVER like real life? Good luck Jesse! But then again, everyone was pretty damn good! Ahhhh so many hard decisions!

BEST MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
  • ALICE IN WONDERLAND
  • BURLESQUE
  • THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
  • RED
  • THE TOURIST
The Kids Are All Right, hands down! Well that and the fact that I don't really think that any of the other movies even serve as contenders in this category...Alice In Wonderland (no offense to Johnny Depp and Tim Burton --> I love all your other movies dearly, and no one was more excited to see this movie than me) was lackluster to say the least...Burlesque = bad movie, if this wins I'll be pissed. And the rest of the movies...come on now? Is Red or The Tourist even comparable to The Kids Are All Right?

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
  • ANNETTE BENING in THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
  • ANNE HATHAWAY in LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS
  • ANGELINA JOLIE in THE TOURIST
  • JULIANNE MOORE in THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
  • EMMA STONE in EASY A
I'm kind of liking the idea of The Kids Are All Right (either Bening or Moore) as a sweep for all the awards they're nominated for...so of course, that is my predicted choice. But wouldn't it be CRAZY if Emma Stone won?! She was freaking awesome in Easy A but when has a hip teen movie won against awesome indie flicks or even blockbusters? Wow...but if Easy A wins, I'll seriously be surprised and excited!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
  • JOHNNY DEPP in ALICE IN WONDERLAND
  • JOHNNY DEPP in THE TOURIST
  • PAUL GIAMATTI in BARNEY’S VERSION
  • JAKE GYLLENHAAL in LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS
  • KEVIN SPACEY in CASINO JACK
Always a sucker for Johnny Depp but I haven't seen 4 out of the 5 movies so I'm going to pass on this prediction...

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
  • DESPICABLE ME
  • HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
  • THE ILLUSIONIST
  • TANGLED
  • TOY STORY 3
Uhh...isn't it obviously going to be Toy Story 3????????? If anything else wins...I'll be pissed!

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
  • BIUTIFUL (MEXICO/SPAIN)
  • THE CONCERT (FRANCE)
  • THE EDGE (Kpaй) (RUSSIA)
  • I AM LOVE (IO SONO L’AMORE) (ITALY)
  • IN A BETTER WORLD (Hævnen) (DENMARK)
Not qualified. Next!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE
  • AMY ADAMS in THE FIGHTER
  • HELENA BONHAM CARTER in THE KING’S SPEECH
  • MILA KUNIS in BLACK SWAN
  • MELISSA LEO in THE FIGHTER
  • JACKI WEAVER in ANIMAL KINGDOM
I have no freaking idea. Again. Seriously, should I even be doing this? Well I do love Amy Adams and HBC so I'll be happy if either of them wins...and I definitely don't think that Mila Kunis should win despite the fact that I <3 her but honestly she might have just been in the background. The movie was ALL NATALIE PORTMAN! Supporting cast or not...Another side note on Adams, have you noticed this is first time she's played any character that's not completely cute and pretty?! :)

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE
  • CHRISTIAN BALE in THE FIGHTER
  • MICHAEL DOUGLAS in WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS
  • ANDREW GARFIELD in THE SOCIAL NETWORK
  • JEREMY RENNER in THE TOWN
  • GEOFFREY RUSH in THE KING’S SPEECH
Well...No to Andrew Garfield for sure. Jeremy Renner already won too much last year. So that just leaves Bale, Douglas and Rush. Who to choose???

BEST DIRECTOR – MOTION PICTURE
  • DARREN ARONOFSKY in BLACK SWAN
  • DAVID FINCHER in THE SOCIAL NETWORK
  • TOM HOOPER in THE KING’S SPEECH
  • CHRISTOPHER NOLAN in INCEPTION
  • DAVID O. RUSSELL in THE FIGHTER
If I could all of the above I would but...got to go with my gut and pick Inception's Christopher Nolan. No one can argue that that movie was not beautifully created!

BEST SCREENPLAY – MOTION PICTURE
  • DANNY BOYLE, SIMON BEAUFOY in 127 HOURS
  • LISA CHOLODENKO, STUART BLUMBERG in THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
  • CHRISTOPHER NOLAN in INCEPTION
  • DAVID SEIDLER in THE KING’S SPEECH
  • AARON SORKIN in THE SOCIAL NETWORK
Despite whether it's true or not: The Social Network.

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE – MOTION PICTURE
  • ALEXANDRE DESPLAT in THE KING’S SPEECH
  • DANNY ELFMAN in ALICE IN WONDERLAND
  • A.R. RAHMAN in 127 HOURS
  • TRENT REZNOR, ATTICUS ROSS in THE SOCIAL NETWORK
  • HANS ZIMMER in INCEPTION
Inception! Who can forget those crazy foghorns?! And the fact that it's an epicly slowed down version of the countdown music "Non, je ne regrette rien" by Edith Piaf??? And it's crazy connection that Marion Cotillard stared as Edith Piaf in the 2007 movie "La vie en Rose"!!!

BEST ORIGINAL SONG – MOTION PICTURE
  • “BOUND TO YOU” — BURLESQUE
  • “COMING HOME” — COUNTRY STRONG
  • “I SEE THE LIGHT” — TANGLED
  • “THERE’S A PLACE FOR US” — CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER
  • “YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE LAST OF ME” — BURLESQUE
I have no clue. You decide.

BEST TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA
  • BOARDWALK EMPIRE (HBO)
  • DEXTER (SHOWTIME)
  • THE GOOD WIFE (CBS)
  • MAD MEN (AMC)
  • THE WALKING DEAD (AMC)
BOARDWALK EMPIRE! If anyone is BE's #1 fan it's ME! Still currently working on the reviews for Couch Potatoes though, sorry! Dexter was lackluster this season and we all know that I don't like The Walking Dead but I wouldn't be surprised if Mad Men or The Walking Dead won.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA
  • JULIANNA MARGULIES in THE GOOD WIFE
  • ELISABETH MOSS in MAD MEN
  • PIPER PERABO in COVERT AFFAIRS
  • KATEY SAGAL in SONS OF ANARCHY
  • KYRA SEDGWICK in THE CLOSER
Again, I don't know. I just know that I don't like Kyra Sedgwick and it would be strange if Piper Perabo won. But meh, don't really have an opinion either way...

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA
  • STEVE BUSCEMI in BOARDWALK EMPIRE
  • BRYAN CRANSTON in BREAKING BAD
  • MICHAEL C. HALL in DEXTER
  • JON HAMM in MAD MEN
  • HUGH LAURIE in HOUSE
Let's admit. The real reason why we remember Steve Buscemi is because he's always the annoying weirdo in all of Adam Sandler's movies. But seeing him in the Boardwalk Empire setting was completely different! He is great as a Nucky Thompson and is one of the main reasons I even watch that show. So please pick Buscemi!

BEST TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
  • 30 ROCK
  • THE BIG BANG THEORY
  • THE BIG C
  • GLEE
  • MODERN FAMILY
  • NURSE JACKIE
It's probably going to be Glee...although I love Glee and all but excuse me...have you seen the craziness that is Nurse Jackie or The Big C? Give it a chance! Edie Falco and Laura Linney are AMAZING! That is what I really find interesting not some primetime millions of fans shows...(Hehe but I don't watch them too I must admit). And how is Comedy and Musical in the same category?!! They're not even related! The only musical in this category is Glee!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES –COMEDY OR MUSICAL
  • TONI COLLETTE in UNITED STATES OF TARA
  • EDIE FALCO in NURSE JACKIE
  • TINA FEY in 30 ROCK
  • LAURA LINNEY in THE BIG C
  • LEA MICHELE in GLEE
Funny, I just mentioned them in the last post. Same reasoning as above but Glee might take this one again...Sad. People really need to give these other shows a chance!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
  • ALEC BALDWIN in 30 ROCK
  • STEVE CARELL in THE OFFICE
  • THOMAS JANE in HUNG
  • MATTHEW MORRISON in GLEE
  • JIM PARSONS in THE BIG BANG THEORY
Thomas Jane in HUNG! Hell yeah! If you watch this show you'd totally understand! Hands down. If it's Glee again I might barf...

BEST MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
  • CARLOS (SUNDANCE CHANNEL)
  • THE PACIFIC (HBO)
  • PILLARS OF THE EARTH (STARZ)
  • TEMPLE GRANDIN (HBO)
  • YOU DON’T KNOW JACK (HBO)
I didn't watch 4/5 of these but I did watch You Don't Know Jack and it's about assisted suicide. This movie is SO AMAZING, yes controversial, but you can't deny the acting in it. So even if I haven't seen the other 4, got to go with my gut and pick HBO's You Don't Know Jack!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
  • HAYLEY ATWELL in PILLARS OF THE EARTH
  • CLAIRE DANES in TEMPLE GRANDIN
  • JUDI DENCH in RETURN TO CRANFORD
  • ROMOLA GARAI in EMMA
  • JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT in THE CLIENT LIST
Skip. Again.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
  • IDRIS ELBA in LUTHER
  • IAN MCSHANE in PILLARS OF THE EARTH
  • AL PACINO in YOU DON’T KNOW JACK
  • DENNIS QUAID in THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP
  • EDGAR RAMIREZ in CARLOS
Same reason as before for the Best Mini-Series/Motion Picture for Television. Al Pacino is AMAZING!!!!! Can't stop raving about it!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
  • HOPE DAVIS in THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP
  • JANE LYNCH in GLEE
  • KELLY MACDONALD in BOARDWALK EMPIRE
  • JULIA STILES in DEXTER
  • SOFIA VERGARA in MODERN FAMILY
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kelly MacDonald!!!!! I really hope she wins! And she's SO PRETTY and innocent in the show!!!! But I wouldn't really mind the other ones except Julia Stiles! GOD, WHAT HORRIBLE ACTING SHE PORTRAYS IN THE SHOW! Yes we get that you've been brutally raped but the act got old FAST. I was over it by the 2nd time I saw you...I'm so glad that you'll never reprise your performance on Dexter...She's actually one of the main reasons that I don't feel the urgency to watch Dexter every week!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
  • SCOTT CAAN in HAWAII FIVE-O
  • CHRIS COLFER in GLEE
  • CHRIS NOTH in THE GOOD WIFE
  • ERIC STONESTREET in MODERN FAMILY
  • DAVID STRATHAIRN in TEMPLE GRANDIN
I don't know. Would it be hypocritical of me to pick Chris Colfer? Yeah, kind of...so I'm just not going to predict this one.

What do you think will happen? I wonder what my fellow Couch Potatoes think??

Winners to come in the next post~! And then we can all see how shitty I am at predicting harhar.
