Hullo! Brand new year and one old episode of House from last year. I'm taking over House reviews from my fellow CP heyitsabell because she's busy watching Taiwanese drama Endless Love and since we both watch House, we can help each other out whenever.
So, this episode opens with a man who got hospitalised after blood poisoning from crucifying himself. Crazy shit, right??? But hey, I know there are weird people all over the world. The man's daughter was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer so he made a bargain with God that for each year of his daughter's subsequent life, he would do a symbolic sacrifice to Him by crucifying himself and bam, his daughter's cancer disappeared three weeks after that. He refuses medical treatment because he fears it would violate his pact and his daughter would die. ugh. Tough talking anything through such people.
Meanwhile, Cuddy is still mad at House for lying to her on his last case. She would accept nothing besides an apology but House feels he had done nothing wrong. After all, lying saved that patient's life. Cuddy is having none of that 'everyone lies' argument. Wilson suggests to House that he pretends to lie and also spills to House that he is about to propose to Sam again even though he has suspicions that Sam falsifies her hospital reports. Uh-oh. Trouble trouble. Taub suspects that his wife is taking revenge on him by having an affair with a man from her support group. Chase is...enjoying bachelor life - having all the sex (threesomes, etc) without any of the guilt and Foreman...meh, Foreman is just Foreman. Not much character development on Foreman this time around. Now, Martha, Martha, Martha. I hate Martha. I hate Martha and her sense of moral and honesty. I hate the character and I dislike the actress playing her. Every time she gets screen time, i groan at my computer.
This episode doesn't seem to focus too much on the patient case. More of House's staff drama at play here this time and it might as well be that way, because I'm not too keen on watching some religious fanatic on my fave tv show.
The patient refuses medical treatment, starts losing his teeth and have some kind of expression disorder as a result of his sickness. His daughter even comes around to convince him to take medicine but he wouldn't listen to her. So what's a doctor got to do? Lie, of course. House tells him that God already broke his pact because his daughter's cancer still exists and the man calls him a bastard but let House do everything to him aka give meds etc. So yay, he recovers, House tells him the truth that his daughter is fine and dandy and the man becomes more obsessed with God than he already was.
In order to make up with Cuddy, House lies that he's remorseful for having lied to her but that makes Cuddy happy so everything's alright for the moment. I say 'for the moment' because House's face tells me that he can't live this way for too long -- pleasing someone at the expense of his own sense of justice. Wilson proposes to Sam and she's all excited until Wilson blurted out about the reports and then it's NO DEAL. NO re-MARRIAGE, NO RELATIONSHIP. Such is the reward for being honest. I weep for Wilson here. sobs* What a poor thing. This episode ends with everyone having new relationship problems. HELP!!!!! I hope things get better in episode 9.
