For those of you who don't know what this movie is, here's a trailer to get you started.
Okay, first off, this isn't heyitsabell. Surprised? Haha, actually I did go watch it with her, but she thought her opinion would be too biased seeing as how she's a huge Jay Chou fan. I could possibly agree with that. Anyhow, here's what I thought:
I went into the movie actually expecting it to be entertaining but not all that good. No offense to Seth Rogen or anything, because I know that man puts on a good show, but it seemed like it could go pretty badly if it wasn't done right. Fortunately as luck would have it, I went to see it and it was good.
Here's the basic rundown.
Britt Reid (played by Rogen) is a good-for-nothing guy who basically pisses away money partying while his father is heading up a multimillion dollar media empire. That all changes when his father dies, leaving everything to Britt. While he's unsure of everything going around him, he meets Kato (played by Chou) who was his father's mechanic and coffee maker. They come up with a crazy plan: defeat bad guys while pretending to be bad guys.
Now this is all well and good, but they have no idea how to do it. So they ask for the help of Britt's new temp-cum-permanent-secretary Lenore Case (played by Cameron Diaz) who is a dedicated journalist with a background in criminology. She gives her predictions on what their actions will be and unwittingly and unknowingly becomes their criminal mastermind.
Throw in Chudnofsky, the guy who controls all the crime in LA (played by Christopher Waltz), and Scanlon, a far too friendly DA (played by David Harbour), plus a sprinkling of strangely funny minions (and an awesome cameo by James Franco in the beginning) and you've pretty much got the gist of the movie.
Okay, here's the 5 most cringe-worthy things in the movie:
5. Destruction of very nice property... Always makes me wince a little.
4. Jay Chou's driving skills when he's not driving the cool Hornet car. I mean, the guy's been in a driving movie, couldn't he fake it better?
3. Cameron Diaz's acting is a bit stiff, but I guess it might be the role. She doesn't really get into it until nearly the end.
2. Britt is a little too obtuse. I know he's supposed to be an everyday guy, but it's a bit much sometimes.
1. Jay Chou's accent is atrocious. Sorry, Jay Chou lovers, it really is that bad.
And here are 5 reasons why you should watch it:
5. James Franco trying to act all badass. I know it's only a couple minutes, but seriously hilarious.
4. Cool gadgetry, including weapons and the very complicatedly cool coffee machine.
3. The kick-ass martial arts scenes courtesy of the English-challenged Jay Chou.
2. The funny banter. Rogen really does make the funniest movies. I spent half the movie giggling in my seat.
1. Some of the coolest automobiles EVER.
So there you go. Should you watch it? If you like funny movies, go for it. I watched it in 3D. I doubt you really have to, but it's not bad. The effects are good and the images are nice and crisp (which is more than I can say about a LOT of other 3D movies).
P.S. Can I just say that I love that "Gangsta's Paradise" was on the soundtrack for this movie?
Movie Grade: B

heyitsabell's review:
Going to jump into this post as well just because I thought some things were left out that I thought was freaking hilarious/some thoughts I should put out there:
1) Chudnofsky's insecurities as a badass. HE IS THE MOST INSECURE VILLAIN IN THE WORLD. It's freaking hilarious because he is kind of a scary son-of-a-bitch but instead he wears ugly 80's suits and tries to adopt a "style" and motto for when he kills people. But his most badass weapon is his double barrel gun. Damn dude. Amazing.
2) THE CAR aka "Black Beauty" was super tricked out with everything that you could think of. Kato's invention of course, therefore when Britt tried to work it he couldn't understand because it wasn't in English. HAHA. But check out the movie just to watch probably the most awesome superhero mobiles out there.
3) The jokes were good. Most of the time when you watch Seth Rogen's movies you kind of cringe because some of his jokes are like severely severely lame. But in this one, I was like literally laughing out loud. That was pretty exciting.
4) I actually really didn't like the fighting scenes. The kung-fu was ALRIGHT. I mean, very typical, and wasn't that interesting. However, I thought the VERBAL BANTER was amazing between the two of them.
5) THE SUSHI DRIVE. Those who watched will know what I'm talking about, those who haven't, don't worry, this won't spoil anything for you. :)
But ahhhh Jay Chou *squeals* :) Too bad he looks not that attractive in the movie though. :( And his English is really terrible. :( But YAY for James Franco! I was like A+ excited to see that was him! Yay. Made me reminisce about Pineapple Express harhar.
So you can see why I can't give it a grade right?
Okay, that's all. :)
